An Unnecessary Part

Sally begins another day, like everyday, according to The Program. Following a quick recharge, Sally starts work at The Factory. Suddenly, Sally goes haywire. Pausing Sally’s Program, The Overseers send her to be repaired. An older robot, Sally worries her parts are unrepairable. “Judging the damage,” The Specialist advises, “I suggest beginning the upgrade process.” As The Specialist replaces parts, Sally notices him remove a part which isn’t replaced. “Why not replace that part?” He answers, “It was found unnecessary and is no longer manufactured. Yours isn’t worth repair. It’s incompatible with the upgrade.” “What’s the part called?” “A Heart.”
