Stare

It’s impossible, surely. I cannot believe what I’m seeing. I must ask the doctor again, but I cannot stop staring. Is this really me?

“It looks fabulous, some of my best work! You’ll be envied all over town,” he smirks.

Self-consciously, I emerge into the world with my new self, immediately attracting stares. An hour, two, twelve it continues; everyone stares, gathering in mobs but never saying anything. They point and whisper, chilling my spine. Perhaps I was wrong after all.

“Please! Make it stop!” I beg, “I don’t want it anymore; I just want to be myself again.”

Week 12 - 100 Word Short Story Challenge.

I have been challenged to write a short story every week, inspired by a one-word prompt. The only catch is that the story has to be EXACTLY 100 words. The one-word prompt for this story was ‘Stare.’
